Summer Home Maintenance Tips
By Ryan Young — Inspection Pros LLC
The summer is the perfect time to enjoy the sun and spend time outside. It's also the perfect time to do seasonal maintenance on your home to keep it in good condition. Here are some summer maintenance tips from a home inspection professional.
1. Check Your Air Conditioning
The summer temperatures can be very taxing on your air conditioner. Clean or replace your air filters as necessary. You should have your system serviced if you hear strange noises, or notice a reduction in cooling.
2. Inspect Your Roof and Gutters
Your roof and gutters may be damaged by summer storms. Check for damage, such as cracked or missing shingles or leaking. To prevent water damage, make sure your gutters are securely fixed and are free of any debris.
3. Check Your Deck or Patio
The summer is the best time to enjoy your outdoor area, but you should make sure that your deck or patio are in good shape and safe. Check for signs of damage, such as loose boards or rotten wood. Seal and clean your patio or deck to protect it against the elements and extend its life.
4. Check Your Windows and Doors
The heat of summer can cause your windows and doors to warp or swell. Check for damage, such as cracks, leaks or drafts. Ensure they are sealed and insulated properly to improve the efficiency of your heating and cooling systems.
5. Test Your Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors
The summer brings with it barbecues and outdoor activities which can be a fire risk. Check your carbon monoxide and smoke detectors and replace the batteries if necessary.
Summer maintenance is important to keep your home in good condition and avoid costly repairs. Check your air conditioner, inspect your roof and gutters, check your deck or patio, inspect your windows and doors, and test your carbon monoxide and smoke detectors. Follow these tips to keep your home in good condition all summer long.
